Solution:
We implemented, using our own branded Sahara Net solution, a complete e-mail migration solution for Saudi Research and Marketing Group, a Saudi Stock market listed company and the largest publishing company in the Middle East. This project, which took 3 months of carefully planned migration, comprised of migrating 23 email domains with hundreds of users under each organization, from their then hosting company in the UK to our Data Center in Dammam.

Overview:

SRMG is a holding company under which there were 9 companies. Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) is a Saudi joint stock company registered in Riyadh. The group mainly publishes, prints, and distributes various publications.

SRMG is the largest publishing company in the Middle East engaged mainly in providing information products and services by publishing newspapers and magazines across the Middle East and globally. The company owns fifteen daily, weekly and monthly newspapers and magazines, including Asharq Al Awsat, Arab News, Al Majalla, Urdu News, Arrajol and Al Eqtisadiah. Its establishment is regarded as the beginning of the new Saudi media empire. Additionally, the company also deals with marketing, advertising and distributing services heavily across the MENA region and Europe. SRMG operates in seven countries.

 

Business need:
Migration of all SRMG companies’ email domains and mailbox contents from their previous hosting company in the UK to Sahara Nat Data Center in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, with zero downtime, no loss of information, ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery. Furthermore, they had problems with their existing email system management and related issues. SRMG wanted a way to account for active and inactive employees in each organization with updated basic information on each.

 

Solution:
Sahara Net provided SRMG with a carefully planned migration for all domains with their users and mailbox contents keeping same mailbox names and same passwords. Sahara also built a portal for SRMG employees to update their information. The solution provided Zero down time and an updated status up to the minute on migration of each domain. The complete email domains and sub-domain migration from UK to Dammam was complete in 3 months with zero downtime.

Solution
We worked in harmony with our partners to plan the migration. Once the work started we did the following:

  • Provided a highly available email system.
  • Hosted this new system at our Data Center in Dammam.
  • Provided an automatic migration system which migrated all SRMG users’ mailbox contents over a period of 3 months to the new solution in Sahara.
  • Developed a portal for SRMG users to login and enter all their information.
  • Create a much needed database of users for each of their domains (companies).
  • Resolved the obstacles they were facing in managing the domains and in dealing with having some mailboxes for employees who had already left the company.
