Wi-Fi protected setup is known as a communications protocol that is responsible for facilitating the setup process of wireless networks whether in homes or small companies. This technology is designed to target users who are not familiar with Wi-Fi configurations. Since, WPS allows different devices to be added to a network easily, and at the same time, it ensures security. The Wi-Fi protected setup was known as Wi-Fi simple configuration.
This protocol divides wireless devices into three main categories. First, the devices that search for a connection to the network, and these are called Enrollees. Second, devices that are able to connect or disconnect other devices which are entitled as Registrars. Finally, the access points which are considered as a medium between enrollees and registrars with registrar capacities. These Aps are WPS certified use PIN or a personal identification number and a certain button to connect devices to the network.
Here are two different procedures to connect to a WPS enabled router. First, push a special button on the router, then enter a PIN that is written on the back. So an error might be occurred in which the PIN is invisible from the outside and the button is not reachable. The PIN seems to be consisting of 8 characters, but in fact, it is made of two independent parts that are checked one after the other. So the person who seeks to be connected to the network just has to find the first then the second part which may lead to many attacks.
