New Cyber Attacks
Mining cryptocurrencies take a huge amount of computing power and thus hackers have started
using a malware that steals computing resources of computers it hijacks to make digital money.
Security researchers have spotted a malware that infected hundreds of Windows web servers and
exploited a known vulnerability in Microsoft IIS 6.0 to secretly install the malicious cryptocurrency
miner malware that helped cybercriminals to make more than 63,000$ worth of Monero
cryptocurrency in three months. It is highly recommended to patch the vulnerable Microsoft
Windows servers at the earliest.
Cyber Security Statistics
A study made on 100,000 corporate devices by Wandera Mobile Security Firm showed that gaming
apps are the ‘main source’ of phishing attacks. The second in the list was the email apps according
to the study. Moreover, as what the study showed, iPhone devices were identified as the most
widely targeted with %63 of the attacks, while Android devices got %37 only.
New Cyber Threats
A security researcher from Google has discovered a security vulnerability in Apple’s iPhone and
other devices that use Broadcom Wi-Fi chips. The newly discovered vulnerability, which Apple fixed
with its last major iOS update, could allow hackers to take control over the victim’s iPhone remotely
over local Wi-Fi networks. It is highly recommended to patch the iOS with the new updates
Cyber Security Tip
Be careful with email auto-complete list. This is an email feature that displays suggestions for
names and email addresses when you begin typing it in the “To…” field. However, your email client
can mistakenly suggest the wrong recipient for you. If you are emailing anything sensitive, always
make sure to recheck the “To…” field before hitting the send button.
